Name: Daniel James Kaneyuki
Instrument: Tenor Saxophone
Age: 19 years old
Years Playing: 8 years

Dan began playing the saxophone after hearing and enjoying a local high school band. Due to the fact that he had played the piano since the age of seven, the saxophone came easy to him. He has studied with musicians such as Dave Friedrichs, Bill Liston, and Jay Mason.
Dan Kaneyuki currently attends Cal State Long Beach as a music major
with emphasis on jazz studies. He currently studies with Jay Mason and
plays second tenor in the Studio I Jazz Ensemble. Dan listens to artists
and groups including Bill Liston, Eric Marienthal, Maynard Ferguson, Pete
Christlieb, Michael Brecker, Gordon Goodwin, Andy Martin, Sonny Stitt,
Sonny Rollins, Dizzy Gillespie, Tom Kubis, Coltrane, Wayne Bergeron, Bobby
Shew, Carl Saunders, Stan Getz, Hank Mobley, Dexter Gordon, Lee Morgan,
and many others.
Thus far, Dan feels his greatest accomplishments are playing first tenor in
the California State Band 2005, playing second tenor in the Southern
California Jazz Band in 2003 and first tenor in the same ensemble in
2004-2005, as well as his $12,000 scholarship to Berklee School of Music in
2004.
In the future, Dan Kaneyuki hopes to have a career as a freelance
musician in Los Angeles, CA. Eventually he would like to make it as a studio
musician in addition to teaching privately. As he told Teen Jazz, "As long
as it involves music, I'll be happy."
