My tenor setup is a 1944 silver plated rolled tone hole Naked Lady Conn
10M. My mouthpiece is a Saxscape Downtown Studio .108 on Tenor. I use La Voz Medium reeds with a Vandoren Optimum ligature.
My alto setup is a silver plated 1936 Conn 6M VIII. My mouthpiece is a Meyer 7M. I use Rico Jazz Select 3M and Vandoren Blue Box 3 reeds with a stock ligature.
I began studying music when I was 7 and began learning Alto Saxophone
when I was 12. After a few years I began learning the piano at 14 and later when
on to start learning tenor at 15. I began studying music, jazz in particular,
because one day I herd something on the radio. I herd an instrument and I loved
the sound of it. It was an Alto Sax and it was the Phil Woods solo from Billy
Joel's Just The Way You Are.
Currently I am playing 1st tenor for the Westernport Regional Band, which
plays at the Inverloch Jazz Festival, Coolart Jazz Festival, Australian National
Jazz Convention and the Mordialoc Jazz Festival. I also play 2nd tenor in the
Cut'N Run Big Band.
I have my own quartet which performs at Dizzy's Jazz Club, Rye Rsl, Uniting
Theatre and George Jerkins Theater.
I also have my own big band in the works, performing several arrangements of my
own with a vocalist.
My main influences tone wise on tenor are Jeff Driskil and Micheal
Brecker.
My main influences tone wise on alto are Eric Marienthal and David Sanborn and
particually Alex Han.
I draw my improvisation influence in terms of approach from a harmonic
perspective on alto from Charlie Parker, Dan Higgins and Phil Woods.
My influences for harmonic concepts on tenor stem from John Coltrane, Micheal
Brecker and Joshua Redman.
I have played lead alto saxophone for Gil Askey's Big Band for the
last 6 years. I have studied with Nicolas Pearce, Joel Pillman, Gabriel
Alexandrescu, Jeff Mead and Peter Sharp.
In the near future, I plan on applying for the Victorian College Of The
Arts. I also plan on travelling overseas and playing as much as I can
Teen Jazz offers one page hosting with space for a bio and a picture for Teen Jazz Musicians (or just young musicians, you do not necessarily have to be a "jazz musician"). If you are interested in being added to Teen Jazz, there are two ways that you can become a Teen Jazz Artist;
(A) You can write your own biography, including your name, how many years you have been playing, and where you are from and send it to Shannon Kennedy, or
(B) you can fill out the Teen Jazz Artists form to apply for eligibility.
Either way is easy and will only take you a few minutes. Don't miss out on this great opportunity for exposure!
Check out what the future of music looks like here with these talented young teen jazz artists.
Teen Jazz is also looking for young Jazz Artist features, so you could become a feature if you apply. In any of the boxes, state that you are interested in being featured, list your website, and Teen Jazz will see if you will be the next feature. You will be notified by email.
(A) You cannot submit one sentence answers to the Teen Jazz Artist Application form questions, they must be a short paragraph.
(B) You must respond to the confirmation email that you receive from Shannon Kennedy after you submit your profile or your profile will not be published on Teen Jazz.
(C) Pictures and Contact Information on your page are optional, but let us at Teen Jazz know if you would like to have both or either on your profile.
