Advice for the Female Musician
The Do's and Do Not's
by Shannon Kennedy
teen jazz hosted by sax player Shannon Kennedy
Do's

Do Practice and get ahead in your career based on your musical abilities
Do compete with guys on their level not discounting yourself because you
are a girl
Do use your femininity socially - flirting without doing anything less innocent
Do take yourself seriously and project who you want to be as an individual
to other people
Do be an individual and not a clone of someone else
Do realize that you have to be better than a guy to get the same gig
Do care about your appearance - how you are dressed, etc.

Do Not's

Do not sleep with anyone to get a or keep a gig
Do not lose sense of who you are
Do not think looks alone will get you a gig, or help you maintain one
Do not let anyone pressure you sexually and if they do tell them to bug off
Do not care about what other people say about you
Do not manipulate people to get what you want
Do not be a control freak and take over everything
Do not date people in your industry (bosses, fellow musicians, club owners)
